"White Rum, think major name brands are a lot like vodka and basically plain Jane.  Then about ten years ago Ed Hamilton started showing off Rum Agricole to "Mixologists" everywhere and all of a sudden full flavored white rum both traditional and some new entries started showing up.   Now a staple ingredient of the cocktail craze (including ingredients you just can't find) I still prefer my two favorite basic cocktails....the Daiquiri and Ti'Punch.  In Banana Republics, Jimmy Buffet refers to a "bottle of rum and a lime" this is not ment to be a complaint but he forgot to mention the sugar.  If you want to know the truth about rum, a little sugar and lime juice are all you need"  ...Uncle Jerry

Ti'Punch ... Pour a dash (1/4 Tsp.) of Du Bois Sugar Cane Syrup in a rocks glass then slice a disc off the side of a lime (a little larger than the size of a quarter) and squeeze the juice into the glass toss in the rind and mull.  Add 2 ounces of White Rum and stir then add 3 ice cubes when it's cold its ready.

Daiquiri... add a half ounce of lime juice  in a cocktail shaker. Stir in ½ tsp superfine sugar, or use Du Bois Sugar Cane Syrup.   Add 2 oz rum. Fill the shaker with ice, cover, shake hard, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
