Considered the greatest most under rated wines in the world, Southern Rhones deliver great quality at reasonable prices. The 2007 Chateau Redortier Cotes du Rhone Village Beaumes de Venise is a good example of the excellent bottles from the region. It is the same blends of its more famous neighbors Grenache and Syrah and if it were a Chateauneuf du Pape, it would be three times the price.
Chateau Redortier has been around for centuries and its vineyards occupy the highest part of Beaumes de Venise appellation. The temperature is cooler at high elevations adding vibrant freshness and elegance on the palate. The vineyards are so high and steep they have to be managed and picked by hand. Time in the bottle has been kind to this wine, it retains the well defined black fruit of great southern Rhone but it has a pleasing minerality and soft tannins. The acidity make this a food friendly Rhone.
