I really enjoy bottles like this that I can open and give a little time to surprise me.  I opened this one with my friend David, who represents the Natural Wine Company in Aspen.  Katrina brought us a platter of Cristiano Creminelli large format cured meats and a little sheep and goat Gouda imported by Cypress Grove.  Majas Rouge was a little tight when we opened it... David described it as reductive so we sat there swirling the wine in our glasses and talked about the prospect for snow in the winter of 2012-13.  After about 20 minutes we got back to the wine and it had opened up considerably.  Very pretty flowers on the nose like lavender or violets.  Taste of road tar was replaced by dry mineral rich dark friut flavors.  It was a plus 2 with the assortment of rustic meats and cheese....Majas Rouge or Blanc is a bargain, give it a try.
