Domaine Du Galet
des Papes
Chaeauneuf du Pape 2010

A blend of 80% Grenache, 5% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre,5% Cinsault and 5% Vaccarese, this wine is called "Traditional" because its grape mix and high use of Grenache is historically typical. Galet des Papes takes its name from the the large softball/football sized rocks called galet that are strewn throughout the area. Vines average fifty years in age, thereby allowing whole cluster fermentation as a viable option. The grapes are not destemmed, adding a character and structure that would not otherwise be there. No fining, no filtering, new new oak barrels, no cold soak – owner Jean-Luc Mayard is an uncompromising traditionalist. 1500 cases produced.  This is a wine without cosmetics or overreach —honest and luminous with soft and silky textures that only become more ethereal as the wine ages.
